A bit about the original owners….
Sugar Shack’s original owners were Marc and Jasmine Johnson. Here is their story as told by them: Our oldest daughter, Emma, was our inspiration to start this business! We’ve added two trucks since we began and we’ve also added two kiddos as well, Owen and Lyla. Here’s a bit more about how we began:
2004
It all begins with an idea. It was 2004 and we had been thinking about doing a food truck, it seemed like it was a market that was about to take off. Our 5 year old daughter kept talking about the ice cream truck that she missed seeing in Anacortes. So we switched gears and bought this original Good Humor Ice Cream truck on Ebay and started business in May of 2005!
2013
As the years had taken a toll on our original 1969 truck we decided to replace it. We worked on new logos and color palettes and really wanted to keep the classic feel of our original truck. In 2013 we bought a white step van and transformed it into this! But instead of retiring the 1969 truck we made the decision to keep it on the road for a few more years! My sister, Olivia, started running some routes in areas that the old truck couldn’t reach!
2016
In 2016 we actually retired the original truck when we brought “Pinky” to the fleet! We kept the original freezer from the Good Humor truck, and it still keeps ice cream as cold as it did in the 60’s! They don’t make stuff like they use to! With two trucks now that can actually go faster than 40mph we are able to get to a lot more areas and have loved getting to know so many of you in the PNW!
A bit about the new owner(s)….
Sugar Shack was sold in 2022 to Jamie Ford and her son, Levi. Jamie used to work several events alongside Jasmine and would joke that she wanted to come work for her someday. “I was so honored and excited when she approached me and mentioned that Sugar Shack may be coming up for sale. I knew right away that I wanted to be the new owner and Jasmine has been awesome during the transition.” said Jamie. Levi (the spunky kiddo that is usually in tow) is convinced this is his business, so please wish them well as they navigate the new dynamic of Manager Son and Employee Mom. If you introduce yourself to him, he may decide to give you one of his stickers as an invite to his new fan club. Some of you may recognize Jamie as an active community member and owner of a few small businesses in Ferndale. She is excited to carry on the parent/kiddo tradition that Jasmine founded as long as Levi will let her. They are a local family right here in Ferndale, so we are thrilled to continue to serve Whatcom County and surrounding areas. They can’t wait to meet you all in person.
2022
The transition from Jasmine to Jamie begins. Levi has found his love for Chaco Tacos only for them to be discontinued in his first year of business. He quickly found an appreciation for SpongeBob and his silly gumball eyes.
